In 3Shape, I stop the auto margin from jumping by rescanning the die 10–15° off-axis with a light scan spray, then switching Margin Line detection to Curvature (Medium) and seeding at the deepest point; if it’s a feather-edge, I just go manual. @3Shape users — has Curvature been more reliable for you too?

On tricky subgingival margins in exocad, I place three manual anchor points at the line angles before auto-detect and then run Refine margin at about 0.2 mm — my “three anchors first” routine stops the line from doing the tango. If it still wanders on glossy printed dies, a quick IPA wipe and switching detection to Intensity (instead of Curvature) usually stabilizes it without piling on more spray.

Ours is the safety-hold flush cutter; on a 0.018×0.025 SS like your 10 a.m. deband, I brace one beak on the tube and tilt slightly occlusal so the catch fully engages before the cut. It absolutely “flush-cuts and captures the segment,” but around second molars the angled head version is kinder on cheeks.

If the margin keeps hopping, I do a quick HD patch scan 1–2 mm around the cervical and switch detection to “Intensity (Low)” — it’s less twitchy than Curvature on flatter preps; just keep the die matte or the intensity map lies. @j_rogers1990 have you tried that combo?

But i’ve had some luck with multilayer zirconia by tweaking the sintering schedule a bit; sometimes it’s like trying to bake a cake — timing can really change the outcome!
